While some marketers take winding paths into the industry, Montserrat Gutierrez found her direction early on and hasn’t looked back. From college to her first few jobs before Brafton, she’s always known how to use her skills for marketing excellence. First in graphic design and now as Brafton’s Marketing Specialist – Demand Generation, she blends creativity and strategy to drive measurable results. Let’s learn how Montserrat continues to navigate the waters of demand generation at Brafton.
Dipping Her Toes Into the Marketing World
Montserrat’s journey started in college while getting a major in marketing and communication. She studied at Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, a prestigious university in Mexico where she graduated with honors.
While she excelled academically, she also used this time to learn about various cultures, studying abroad for a semester in Barcelona, Spain. “One of the coolest experiences of my life,” she smiled. Her university was extremely diverse, with classmates from all over the world, including Mexico, Germany, France, Egypt and more.
“I fell in love with the culture, the food, the architecture. And I got to travel a lot during the weekends,” she said. “My grandmother was from Spain, so it was really special for me to get involved in the culture while studying abroad.”
During these four years of exploring and meeting new people, she also worked part-time as a graphic designer for a social media marketing agency where she learned about branding, design, content creation, photography and community management.
After working for this small agency, she wanted to switch things up. She took a leap of faith and landed a job as a marketing specialist at a customs and logistics company. There, she was responsible for the company’s marketing strategies, sales collateral, social media and website maintenance. Once this role went remote during the COVID-19 pandemic, she quickly realized it was the best working style for her.

Finding Her Fit at Brafton
When she knew it was time for a change, she looked for an international business so she could be surrounded by people of different cultures, backgrounds and countries, just like during her college years. She also wanted to immerse herself deeper into SEO. After finding Brafton on LinkedIn and completing the first interview, she had a feeling that this was the place for her, “and the rest was history,” she added.
She started as a marketing specialist for our internal marketing team where she was in charge of creating new collateral like case studies, helping make new decks and keeping everything on brand. Recently, she’s gotten more involved in Brafton’s SEO strategies, optimizing our website, analyzing data and reporting her findings. Since having her hand in more Brafton website projects, she’s learned a lot about SEO strategies and how to rank better in SERPs.
“This was where my passion for SEO really started,” she added.
With this shift to new responsibilities, her title transformed to Marketing Specialist – Demand Generation, highlighting the unique gifts she brings to the table.
Her favorite part about the role? Working with other Braftonites.
“I’m really grateful for all the team members I’ve worked with these past two years,” she said. “I’ve grown so much professionally and personally, and our team environment has always been so cooperative and friendly.”
And the freedom to work remotely and travel between her hometown, Tampico, and Mexico City is a major plus. She and her husband split time between these two cities with ease, spending three to four weeks in Mexico City and one in Tampico.
Exploring Hobbies Outside of Work
While Montserrat has a blast during her 9 to 5, she doesn’t slow down once she’s off the clock — although her focus switches from demand generation to exploring her city. During the weekends, you can find her perusing art galleries and trying new restaurants. Once she’s back home, she loves reading, drinking tea, watching TV and getting in a Pilates workout. Her current read? “A La Sombra Del Angel” by Kathryn Skidmore Blair. Check in with her to learn if she’d recommend it!
But exploring her city and pursuing cozy pastimes aren’t the only ways she spends her free time; she also loves scuba diving and has her advanced Padi certificate. She said that diving at night is one of the coolest things she’s done.
“It was something I claimed I could never do — it scared me just thinking about it. But I went for it and it’s amazing how much the site changed from day to night,” she beamed. “The corals transformed to luminescent colors when the flashlight hit them, and different animals appeared that I’d never seen before during the day.”
However, since she can only go diving about twice a year, she decided to fill her time with another fun hobby: ballet. She recently signed up for a beginners-adults class that she’s obsessed with.
“Ballet was something I always wanted to try, and I don’t regret it at all,” she said. “It’s really difficult, but the hour-and-a-half class passes in the blink of an eye.”
Whether she’s whipping up new leads for Brafton or diving into unknown waters, it’s safe to say Montserrat knows a thing or two about making a splash — a fact that both her clients and colleagues get to enjoy.
