How Does Tezos Work?
Tezos is a blockchain network for launching decentralized applications (dApps) and executing smart contracts. Access to the program code is open, and each user can participate in the system modernization.
The multi-stage architecture of Tezos allows users to update the network without hard forks. The system is divided into three modules:
- The Network Module;
- The Transaction Module;
- The Consensus Module.
The code of the blockchain ecosystem is written in the Ocaml computer language, which makes it possible to independently update each of the protocol levels.
In 2014, Arthur (a former Morgan Stanley analyst) and Caitlin Breitman had an idea to create Tezos. To launch their project, they held a very successful ICO (Initial Coin Offering) in 2017 — the couple managed to raise $232 million, making it the largest ICO at that time. But due to internal problems, the implementation of the project was delayed. So, the coin never entered the exchanges at the appointed time. This caused panic among the investors, and several court proceedings were initiated against the project founders.
In 2018, a beta version of the project was released, but it did not manage to save the situation. Deceived investors rushed to sell their tokens for a song, seeking to return investments, which caused the collapse of the exchange rate.
The developers had to catch up quickly. Network tests began in late summer 2018, and the coin was fully launched in the fall.
